Sony Entertainment’s direct-to-DVD division, Stage 6 Entertainment, has brought you certain classics such as Boogeyman 3, The Grudge 3 and Starship Troopers 3, disproving that all good things come in 3’s. We can now add Hostel 3 to the mix, only this time without the vision and leadership of writer-director Eli Roth.
The third film in the series will apparently be set in Las Vegas, with a bachelor party serving as the fulcrum for the blood, guts and violence. Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2) directs from a screenplay by Michael Weiss, which begins shooting this August.
Eli Roth, who concocted the first two films, recently took to twitter to address the second sequel:
Rumor Control: not producing Hostel 3, but it’s in the VERY capable hands of director Scott Spiegel & producers Mike Fleiss & Chris Briggs.
There was a huge demand to continue the series and they are the right team to do it. They’re very smart, creative, and really get it.
I’m a fan of the first Hostel, and I defend the second film for not just rehashing its predecessor and providing a different look at the Elite Hunting organization. Moving forward with a third film though, I’m not sure how exactly they can keep it fresh and not just a cash-grab. The Las Vegas factor intrigues me, but ultimately part of what made the first two films interesting is that it was set in foreign countries; that was another element of the horror for those tourists. I fear that Hostel Part III might end up going the route of gore and excess for the sake of it, but like always I will hold my judgement until I see it.
No other news on Hostel Part III yet, but stay tuned for more news as it develops.
