Posted on: March 20th, 2010 Johnny Storm for CAPTAIN AMERICA?

chris20evansThis Captain America casting has become ridiculous. As the Editor for this site I had decided that it was just too much to continue barraging our readership with rumor after rumor in regards to who’s playing Captain America. This shortlist apparently changes three times a day.

If it weren’t at least interesting or close to true, we wouldn’t post it, but this piece of news is fodder for some water-cooler chit chat.

According to (the often bang-on) THR’S HeatVision, actor Chris Evans has been offered the role of Captain America.

Both Marvel and CAA, who represents the actor, have declined to comment, but sources at THR, which again are more often than not, true, confirm that Evans has an offer in his hands.

Evans, who isn’t a stranger to Marvel comics films, having played the Human Torch, Johnny Storm in two Fantastic Four films, wasn’t even among the initial contenders for the role of Captain America. As that list of almost unknown younger actors dwindled down, Marvel began extending their feelers to more experienced actors like Ryan Phillipe and to a lesser degree Channing Tatum.

Personally, I think Evans would be fantastic in the role, pun fully intended. More on this news as it breaks.

TRIVIA: Besides his roles in the Fantastic Four films, Evans will be seen in The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, both films based on comic books.
