Third Batman Script Commencing?

the-dark-knightIf there’s one thing that drives me bananas, it’s the frivolous reporting of unsubstantiated Batman 3 rumors. So far we’ve seen everything from Eddie Murphy as the Riddler to Megan Fox as Catwoman. While we here at GKS try to avoid fueling the rumor fire, there’s apparently reason to believe that the third Batman film has moved to the next step of development – the script.

According to Nikki Finke over at Deadline Hollywood, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight co-writer David Goyer has left ABC’s Flash Forward, whic he served as the showrunner. The reason for leaving – well, there’s no direct confirmation on eactly what project he’s leaving for, but given that WB will no doubt be pressuring for a second Batman Sequel, and the fact that Goyer is becoming a huge name in the business, one could assume it’s the next Bat feature. More or less what you’re looking at here is Finke spinning this news into Goyer and Jonathan Nolan (Chris Nolan’s brother and Dark Knight co-writer) beginning work on Batman 3.

Could it be true? Sure. It’s a totally reasonable assumption. However, Goyer is insanely busy, with multiple projects lined up (among them, The invisible Man, Y: The Last Man and Ghost Rider 2). Take into account that director Christopehr Nolan himself hasn’t confirmed his involvement at all, I’d take this script rumor with a very large, batmobile-sized grain of salt.

With that note, lets pump the brakes on speculation and take this at face value.

More on Batman 3, as it’s confirmed.
