Posted on: January 26th, 2010 Lionsgate Pulls Paranormal Director Back to Saw
There is some drama behind the scenes of the Saw franchise and the soon-to-be-franchise Paranormal Activity.
A couple of weeks ago we reported that Saw VI director Kevin Greutert had signed to direct Paranormal Activity 2, which was official, over at Paramount. Well apparently Lionsgate, who had an option or some contractual legal mumbo jumbo on the director, wasn’t too pleased with him jumping over to the competition, and has reigned him back in to the Saw franchise. Essentially, Lionsgate is instead forcing him to leave PA2 to direct the seventh Saw film, Saw 3D (funny, I thought the first six were only one-dimensional).
We could bounce hypothetical he-said she-said’s all day as to why this insanely disorganized affair is happening, but ultimately it is happening, and Greutert isn’t too pleased with the situation. Over on his official website, Greutert had likened the turn of events to “being raped by your father”. He’s since removed that outlandish comment and instead commented a bit more accessibly.
I’m in the middle of something really terrible right now, as anyone who has come to this site probably knows. While I fight for justice in this, the important thing is to avoid giving in to hatred and anger, because these emotions are life killers. Hopefully we will all arrive at an amicable solution.
This whole debacle now poses a few questions and concerns. With Greutert off of Paranormal Activity 2, who will be his replacement? Both Saw VII and PA2 start shooting in around 6 weeks, leaving barely any time for a new director to get acclimated with the task at hand, and Paranormal Activity creator/writer/director Oren Peli is still at work on Area 51. If I were Lionsgate, I’d be worried about the quality of the seventh film, having an unhappy director literally forced into the position.
This is just one of those things that proves to your face that these sequels are horse-shit. The studios don’t care. There’s no integrity behind these films. Just a release date, a budget and projected profits.
What a hot mess.

January 27th, 2010 at 10:20 amThe Saw franchise has been so cheapened by the mediocrity of the sequels. The first film was a passable thriller in my opinion but nothing special, and it’s been a slippery downhill slope from there. I can’t believe there was a Saw IV, given just how terrible II and III were. How we ever even made it to the seventh film is beyond my comprehension. I’m no expert on the subject but didn’t the “jigsaw killer” die in the 2nd or 3rd film? Ridiculous.

The studio is FORCING a director to make the film!. That alone is proof of that. I fail to see the “bigger story”, but alas you like torture clips, I get it
Greutert is going to phone in Saw 7 so hard it will be hilarious, it’s going to be a trainwreck (moreso). Lionsgate is run by lunatics.
