GREMLINS 3 Rumor Hatches Online

There seems to be word of a Gremlins sequel or remake on a yearly basis, so this doesn’t quite come as a surprise to anyone, but MarketSaw is reporting some activity on the little green monsters.
Though this should be taken with a hefty grain of salt (and not after midnight), the rumor is that a third Gremlins film is in very early stages of development, and would ultimately be seen in stereoscopic 3D. This bit of info comes to them only from a “top source”, so again don’t take too much heed.
To be fair however, I wouldn’t be surprised if this turned out to be true (3D notwithstanding); frankly, I figured Warner Bros. would have taken the franchise as far as they could, but they stopped after the second film went over audience’s heads. The sheer iconography and merchandising success of the first film, on a pop-culture level, is pretty uncanny. I have no doubt that a third film, or the inevitable re-imagining, will at least be discussed over at WB.
What we can probably put money on, is that director Joe Dante probably won’t be involved at all. He addressed during SDCC last year (where he promoted his next film, The Hole) that a return to the series would be highly unlikely. We can probably expect computer generated (or at least a portion of CGI) little green meanies.
Until a more solid lead on this story hits, enjoy the last we saw of the Gremlins in this ad for BT Business in the UK.
