Posted on: January 23rd, 2010 Check Out the New CONAN (The Barbarian)
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything on the new Conan the Barbarian film from director Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th), but the ever news-breaking crew over at Latino Review caught themselves a big one – Conan himself.
LR reports that the new Conan will be played by Jason Momoa, whose credits include Baywatch and Stargate: Atlantis. The actor was one of three contenders for the role including Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Friday the 13th). Momoa is said to be Nispel’s first choice, having wowed studio suits and nailing multiple screen tests.
Production on this new Conan film begins in less than eight weeks, so the already fit Momoa is hitting the gym (and the pharmacy? wah wahhh) to bulk up for the larger-than-life role made famous by the hurculean Arnold Schwarzenegger of the 80’s.
But that’s not all! Latino Review also broke the scoop that the role of Conan’s father, Corin, has been offered to Whiplash himself, Mickey Rourke. Looks like things are shaping up for the new Conan film.
More news as it develops. The film is set for a 2011 release.

January 24th, 2010 at 4:54 amI don’t see it, even if they are going with a relatively lesser-known actor. Why is there no tried and proven performer willig to take on such a great role? Thank goodness its not Padalecki.
The feel of Howard’s Conan has never been truly realised outside of the comics, and not always there either. This whole ordeal leaves me in dispair for the soul of the character and any shred of faithful treatment to the literature. If they can’t do it well they shouldn’t be doing it at all; there’s a lot of other characters out there that can be mistreated rather than Conan.
