For the week of Jan. 17 -23: Mass Effect 2

Hello my little squidlets, perhaps while you’ve been busy playing Dark Void (Boo.), Darksiders (yay!), Army of Two: 40th Day (:/) or Bayonetta (yay!), news of next weeks impending release of the sequel to the greatest original sci-fi series to grace the modern console has fallen upon deaf ears. Yes, perhaps. Or perhaps not since Mass Effect 2 has already been getting huge buzz from the gaming world.

In interviews leading up to the release, Dr. Greg Zeschuk (Co-Founder & VP of Bioware) has noted that the team spent a lot of time listening to complaints from the first game and has focused on getting those things right this time around. Such as fixing the clumsy inventory system and shifting the overall game play from a somewhat tactical approach to more of an action game.

Maybe one of the most exciting ideas to come out of the series is the ability to transfer your save file from the first Mass Effect into the second, bringing over all your decisions, whether good or bad, along with it. I’m interested to see what kind of affect this will ultimately have in the game. With the huge number of different experiences players have reported in Bioware’s Dragon Age, we know the team is fully capable of delivering some pretty diverse story lines.

Mass Effect 2 is hitting stores next tuesday and as a final attempt to drum up even more excitement, Bioware has released its final trailer that has to be seen to be believed.

Finally to close out, I’d like to share a few choice screen shots from the world of Mass Effect 2. Very cool Blade Runner vibe going on here. This is going to be big.

I am immensely excited about this game; Mass Effect snuck up on me and became far and away my favorite X360 game. I’ve already told my family and friends that there’s no point in attempting to contact me for at least a week after the 26th.

Not impressed?! What WOULD impress you then?

It’s obvious, but I think this would make a great movie.

Agreed. Since this is a planned trilogy I can’t imagine how the third installment is going to be other than ‘better’.
