Posted on: January 15th, 2010 Sherlock’s Strong for Sinestro?
The last couple days we’ve been hearing non-stop rumors about Jackie Earle Haley being the “only choice” for Green Lantern arch-nemesis Sinestro. While I think that is great casting, Green Lantern director Martin Campbell was quick to dismiss Haley’s involvement with the film. So who does Campbell and WB want for Sinestro?
In an interview with MTV, Campbell says:
…we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro…He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro. If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.
Mark Strong recently made himself more known as Lord Blackwood, the villain in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. I like the idea of Strong even more than Haley; he certainly has the strong physical presence needed for Sinestro, and as a future villain. He also bears a strong (pun intended) resemblance to the character, dare I say even more so than Jackie Earle.
I guess we’ll know soon enough, though it looks pretty obvious who won’t be Sinestro.
Campbell also let some details slip regarding who else we will be seeing in Green Lantern. Kilowog, Tomar-Re and Abin Sur are confirmed by the director himself. These should come as a given for any hardcore Lantern fan. It looks like we’re getting a really dense, hopefully faithful-to-the-source story.
More on Green Lantern as it develops.
