Posted on: December 21st, 2009 FROZEN Trailer: High-Concept or Out of Ideas?
In a genre where every film has been remade, repackaged and regurgitated, audiences are hungry for high-concept horror. Films like Saw and Cube have tried to fit into that so-simple-yet-complex niche that really hasn’t been exploited all that much in the last decade.
You’ll remember we reported the trailer for one such film, Exam. Coming out in February however, is a less-cerebral horror film that takes on a relatively untapped plot-device: ski lift.
Frozen, is a film with a simple premise: three friends on a ski hill are abandoned mid-hill on a ski-lift. What follows could be anyone’s guess – rage? paranoia? cannibalism? threesome?

Though you may scoff at the premise at first, the film screened Butt-Numb-A-Thon this year (the geek famous film-festival put on by AICN’s Harry Knowles at the world-renowned Alamo in Austin) to great reviews. I for one am interested in this film; I applaud any attempt to make an original horror film, and from the (possibly rather revealing?) trailer there looks to be a ton of fun to be had with this one.
The film, written and directed by Adam Green, screens next year at Sundance and will then open wide on February 5.

December 21st, 2009 at 9:50 pmI’m mixed on this one. Trailer definitely gave away too much. Then again, maybe it needs to to get people in the seats. Definite potential… I’ve never been a horror fan though.
