Natalie Portman: Zombie Slayer

pride-prejudice-zombiesIt was inevitable. I’m just surprised it took this long, honestly. Variety reports that the bestselling zombie/classic literature/parody/mash-up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is being developed for the big screen by Geek Queen Natalie Portman. Portman will produce and star as Elizabeth Bennet, heroine zombie killer.

For anyone not familiar with the book, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a retelling of the Jane Austen classic. Writer Seth Grahame-Smith basically took the original, changed some bits here and there, and added zombies. Personally, I couldn’t get through it. I’m not a fan of Pride and Prejudice, and this just felt like a quickly thrown together mish-mash gimmick with a clever title to cash in on the zombie craze. Also, it was almost as boring as the original. Hopefully this will translate better and be more fun on the big screen.

If you want to read a good zombie book, World War Z is a must. If Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is your kind of book, make sure you pick up Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, or Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, or even Vampire Darcy’s Desire: A Pride and Prejudice Adaptation. Holy shit I wish I was making this stuff up!

Yeah I can’t say I’d even attempt this book, knowing that it’s probably still too much like the original to keep my interest. I just finished World War Z though, and that was fantastic. I’d perhaps see this one on the screen though.
