Posted on: December 8th, 2009 Spider-Man 4: Malkovich for Vulture? Black Cat Gone?
Yes I know we’re only throwing fuel to the fires for fellating such frivolous falsehoods, but this rumor is so ripe and recherché that we must report it, regardless of its reputability.
Sorry, that was ridiculous.
What I meant to say was despite this being only a rumor (and these superhero casting rumors should be taken with the largest grain of salt) this casting rumor for Spider-Man 4 is awesome.
Movieline is reporting that Sony Pictures is circling John Malkovich for a villain role in the series’ fourth film. That villain – The Vulture. Apparently this comes confirmed from sources close to the film (take that for what it’s worth).
This would corroborate previous reports that the script features a new, older character that would take over the Daily Bugle from J. Jonah Jameson and become a real thorn in Spidey and Peter Parker’s side. The Vulture character has fashioned a winged harness that allows him flight and limited strength. In my geeky opinion, if you are to go the route of The Vulture – who is a great Spidey rogue – you could cast none better than Malkovich (don’t give me that Ben Kingsley crap, the dude has phoned in performances for decades).
Now that’s the good news.
The bad? According to Movieline, what was previously believed to be a casting rumor for the Black Cat as the second villain (among the names on “the list” are Anne Hathaway and Julia Stiles), the character is now a female version of the Vulture called The Vulturess.
That seems ridiculous and lame and I’m not buying it. The Spider-Man mythos needs not a new villain, if anything Spider-Man 3’s New Goblin proved that. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this Vulturess business is entirely untrue.
As for what is happening with the Lizard character apparently the suits at Sony aren’t comfortable with having actor Dylan Baker headline the film. Considering the teasing we’ve endured for two movies now in regards to Dr. Kurt Connors’ transformation, and the obvious acting abilities of Baker, the powers that be at Sony still have their heads up their asses.
Providing, of course, that this is all true. We never know until they tell us officially though.
Until then, your thoughts?
