King and Spielberg to join forces Under the Dome

I was a faithful reader of Stephen King years ago. Back in Jr. High and High School I was devouring everything he was spewing out, and loving all of it. That all came to a screeching halt once the Gunslinger epic ended. I don’t recall ever feeling so swindled as I did reading those last three books. After that I lost interest altogether. At some point he announced his retirement. As it turned out, that stuck as well as a Ric Flair retirement. He just kept on cranking out books. One aspect of his retirement seemed to stick, though. At one point in time, Stephen King film adaptations were rolling out as quick as Big Macs, and with the same quality. Not so anymore. With the exception of Cell, which has been floating around for a while, I haven’t seen anything regarding possible King adaptations post From A Buick 8.
King’s latest novel, Under the Dome, has attracted the interest on Steven Spielberg. The two are reportedly working on a deal to develop limited series, most likely for cable, based on the book. The book is about an invisible dome that surrounds a small town in Maine (natch), sealing the townspeople off from the rest of civilization, causing warring factions fighting for survival. Both Steves are set to Exec Produce for Dreamworks Television. Hopefully this will prove more successful than their last collaboration, that being bringing The Talisman to the big screen.
And for all you Dark Tower junkies, I found this little nugget on Wikipedia:
During an interview session at a book signing in Maryland, King stated he will be writing an eighth Dark Tower novel. The working title is The Wind Through The Keyhole and it will be set during the period between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla.
This may be old news to some, but it’s the first I heard of it. Just thought I would pass that along.

Hope it wasn’t inspired by The Simpson’s Movie.
