[TRAILER] ‘Superman Returns’ Director’s Cut?

Superman Returns was released in 2006 to pretty mixed reviews; many dug it, many hated it, and a fair amount didn’t really care (I for one liked the film’s direction and cinematography). There’s never been any controversy surrounding the release of the film – the cut that made it to theaters was entirely approved by director Bryan Singer. Try telling that to a new group of Superman Returns fans that have emerged online, for they want your support in bringing a director’s cut to the masses.
Supermanreturnsthebryansingercut.com has a petition going to demand that this extended cut be released. The strange thing here is that this cut doesn’t exist. They’ve even gone as far as using deleted scenes from the DVD release, doctored images and concept art to create a rather interesting trailer. To be honest, I kind of want to see this different cut of the film. Take a look for yourself:
Again, don’t get your hopes up, as this is all just a bunch of fan stuff. Passionate, well-made fan stuff, I’ll give them that. But, if you feel so inclined, head on over and sign their petition.
If anything, this trailer has made me look back at Superman Returns with less judging eyes. The film was beautifully shot and edited, and really fit into the universe crafted in Superman and Superman II. Sadly, the addition of Superman’s kid, and a redundant scheme from villain Lex Luthor brought the film down. Had the script featured a more modern approach, while maintaining its aesthetic sincerity, we would’ve had a spectacular man of steel movie. I still have no doubt of Singer’s ability with the character and his mythos.
So what do you think of this trailer, and Superman Returns itself?
