For the week of November 08 – 14: Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins & the Tetris documentary: From Russia with Love.

NEW RELEASES

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Touted as the biggest release in media history, comes the sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. After two years in development Infinity Ward (IW) comes back to deliver an experience that tops every aspect of the already great first game.

Modern Warfare had its fair share of jaw dropping moments and for the sequel IW seems to have made a point to increase these events.  Almost to the point of making the game live in Action Movie Land instead of the plausibility the first game teetered on. But with a single player campaign play through of around 5-6 hours you can rest assure it will be high energy the entire time.

Here’s Giantbomb.com with another great video review.

Dragon Age: Origins

Edmonton’s very own Bioware, the team that brought you Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect and a slew of other highly touted games has released what they say is the spiritual successor to Baulder’s Gate.

Dragon Age: Origins is yet another Tolkin-esk RPG, albeit much, much bloodier. The most important element separating this game from the pack is the magic Bioware brings to the table. Their focus first and foremost is story, character development and the world in which they exist.

With multiple classes and branching stories, each play through will be a unique experience.

A BBC documentary was brought to my attention this week which takes an in-depth look at the tangled history of Tetris.

From Russia with Love has brought together all the parties involved in this race for the rights, to relive the games creation, business deals and double crosses. And, to be honest, plays out a lot like a Coen Brothers film.

One of the guys even had to forsite to document his travels back and fourth to Moscow and his time there so you can see his cheesy mustache in all its 80’s glory. Truly a story when truth is stranger than fiction.

Until next week.

Dale can also be found over at www.8bitcyclops.com, looking at design, photography and old video game magazines.

Geeze, I was always under the impression no one really paid much attention to these, now someone involved with Dragon Age is commenting…

Yes, congratulations with the release. Everything I’ve heard so far has been extremely positive and with Mass Effect 2 just around the corner I’m sure you guys have been run off your feet up there.

I recently saw an interview with Dr. Greg and was concerned with his lack of mustache… I understand it was to raise awareness for prostate cancer, but I’d like him to know I’m quietly encouraging a speedy recovery.
