Posted on: October 9th, 2009 Ivan Reitman Confirmed for Ghostbusters 3
Is it just me, or does the thought of another Ghostbusters film seem like a pipe-dream, even after green-lights and confirmations from studios and actors? Well, Ghostbusters 3 just got a little more real.
According to Bloody Disgusting, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 director Ivan Reitman is “confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt” to be on-board for the third entry in the series. The specifics of Reitman’s involvement, be that as a director or a producer, are not known right now, though I’ll bet he’ll have a huge part in crafting the film regardless of his official position.
BD also reports on the premise of Ghostbusters 3; apparently the film takes place quite a few years after the second movie, when the Ghostbusters go back in business after being closed for some time. No confirmation yet as to the much speculated plot of there being a new, younger team of Ghostbusters with the originals serving as mentors for the new group. We do know that cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Rick Moranis have confirmed (unofficially) their involvement in the film. The film is currently being penned by The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, and Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd (along with Ivan Reitman?) are to produce.
This couldn’t have come at a better time, with the Ghostbusters franchise having new life recently in the form of a well-received video-game and a pretty wicked new toy-line from Mattel. I’m really looking forward to another chapter of Ghostbusters; as long as the original cast is involved, and it doesn’t stray from the tone of the franchise, I’m all for it. And really, who doesn’t want to see Peter Venkman one more time?
The film is slated for release sometime in 2012.
