Posted on: October 4th, 2009 [REVIEW] Zombieland

Folks, I think this here review is going to be a quick one – simply put, if you are into having a good time at all, you must see Zombieland. That’s right Jimmy Buffett, you cock-blocking robot developed in a secret fucking government lab, you don’t know the meaning of fun.
A mere ten minutes into the movie I realized something. It was one of the most incredibly profound moments of my movie-going life. It occurred to me very early that if my life plays out exactly how I want it to, Zombieland would be the biopic made after I die. This film is quite literally my wet day-dream any day of the week.
In short, Zombieland is the most fun I’ve had at a movie all year.
The story is simple, timeless, indulgent and entirely precautional: four lone survivors of a country-wide (perhaps planet-wide) zombie outbreak find their paths converging and together face hordes of the rabid undead as they travel across magnificent America. Jesse Eisenberg plays Columbus, the meek and Michael Cera-ish survivor whom like me, was smart enough to plan, and follow a set of rules which he graciously imparts upon us, the audience, all the while Tallahasseee, played by the pitch-perfect Woody Harrelson, feeds our inner male-fantasy by destroying every un-living thing in his wake. Catharsis on celluloid, this film is.
Zombieland delivers in every possible way. The action is fantastic; it’s the perfect balance of gore and adrenaline. The comedy is actually laugh-out-loud funny. The soundtrack is fun and exploitative of mega-party-riot times. And above all, this film is technically very well made and edited. From the get-go, the fourth-wall is slightly broken via narrative of our main character Columbus; this takes the audience one step further into the film. Cue the entertainment quotient one-billion. Also, Zombieland is now tied with Watchmen for the greatest opening credits scene ever; that my friends, was exhilarating and amazing.
I’m going to end this review rather shortly, as Zombieland is a film that begs to be seen. And once you’ve seen it, it will haunt you until you see it again and again. Mega props to director Rueben Fleischer (who came out of nowhere!) and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick for kicking my fucking ass, movie-style.

October 8th, 2009 at 7:52 amvery seldom do i get to see a movie while its still fresh on the big screen, so when the film blows big time, it is a huge dissapointment. This was not the case with Zombieland, it totally blew me away and blew my brains all over the back wall of the theater. Zombieland is a simple story told in a witty and smart way and Harrelson was the shit! I also throughly enjoyed ******’s cameo, definetly in my top ten actor cameos of all time. fantastic!
