This here’s an interesting concept; they’ve taken an old horror movie and recreated it under the same title but with new actors, a large budget and fancy new visual effects. Call it a “re-make” if you will. I think these will catch on!
The trailer below is for such a “re-make” of The Crazies – the 1973 George Romero film about a small American town whose people are driven violently insane after a biological weapon is accidentally released by the military.
The re-make, starring Timothy Olyphant and directed by Breck Eisner (Sahara), looks to stick fairly close to that concept. Check out the trailer:
So far it’s registering a solid ‘meh’. I dig Olyphant and I like the idea of an outbreak of crazies. The addition of the song Mad World is a bit played out after hearing it used in Donnie Darko and Gears of War 2, and although I like it it’s a few years too late. And that title… The Crazies… how am I supposed to take that seriously?
But then again… could be fun.
The flick is scheduled for release February 26, 2010.
