To coincide with the release of Halloween II, Rob Zombie has revealed his next film project, a remake of the 1958 horror-sci-fi film The Blob about an alien amoeba that engulfs everything in it’s wake and grows exponentially. The original film is well-known for starring Steve McQueen, who was then relatively unknown.

According to Variety, Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce the R-rated remake, with a budget of around $30 million. That seems like an awful lot dough to make a shitty movie about a blob. After Halloween (and the apparent shit-fest that is it’s sequel), I won’t be rushing out to the theater to see this one. There’s really nothing inventive Zombie could do.

So what’s zombies plan for the flick?

“My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now.”

Right. So we’ll be seeing a blob-less blob?

I’ll leave it up to you, dear readers, to use your imagination, and I’ll leave it up to Rob Zombie to stroke his music-video ego with another pointless horror remake.

I heard the first 20 minutes of his Halloween 2 were good. Everything is getting remade these days. It was only a matter of time for The Blob.
