Posted on: August 5th, 2009 ‘Machete’ Cast Revealed!
When Grindhouse came out, Planet Terror segment director Robert Rodriguez talked about doing a full-length feature based on the faux film trailer for Machete, with the great Danny Trejo kicking ass and taking names.
Well, Rodriguez wasn’t kidding as Machete started production this week. Today we have the main cast list, and this is one of the coolest ensembles in recent years. Joining Danny Trejo are Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, Lindsay Lohan, Ray Liotta, Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba, Rose McGowan and Robert De Niro.
Rodriguez and common cohort Quentin Tarantino love these diverse casts and like to keep working with regulars so it’s no real surprise to see Machete get the same treatment; this does bode well for fans of Grindhouse and the b-movie throwback style. It looks like the Machete film is being taken more seriously than we first thought. It’s also really great to see Danny Trejo get a freaking cool lead role as well, there’s no doubt he’s earned it.
The film was originally intended to be released straight to DVD, but it looks like now it’s getting a theatrical run. I have no problem with that and can’t wait to see what kind of crazy Grindhouse action we get come the film’s release.
