Posted on: February 25th, 2009 Sam Jackson Will Return To Marvel… Nine Times

Woah… didn’t see that coming.
According to Variety, Sam Jackson has signed on to play the role of Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a plethora of future Marvel films. And when I say “plethora”, I mean nine. Nine films. How do you go from being low-balled to the point where you can’t commit to ONE film, to agreeing to NINE films.
Marvel: Alright, Sam… how’s $250K for one film sound to you?
Sam Jackson: $250,000 are you out of your mothafuckin’ mind?!
Marvel: Alright… how’s about $15 million for nine films?
Sam Jackson: Shiiiiiiiit.
Eh, either way, works for me. I’d rather have him than not have him. Watch for Sam Jackson to appear in The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 2 and the much anticipated Dazzler film.

February 25th, 2009 at 10:01 pmI imagine that’s probably exactly how that went!
Seriously though, I’m glad they finally came to their senses and signed him to a nice big deal. What were their options? Recast the role that was tailor made for Jackson? Change the character to the original version of Nick Fury? Even less likely. Although I’d love to see how that would get explained…
Stark! You’ve got a meeting with Stark in 5 minutes! He’s already here…
(Fury enters the room)
Stark: So, how are things over at S.H.I… What the hell happened to your face?
Fury: Reverse skin tan accident. -

February 26th, 2009 at 10:46 amYeah seriously, Marvel needs to wake up. With Iron Man (and to a lesser degree Incredible Hulk) giving their properties some much needed street cred, Marvel needs to ride the wave. Spend the money and get the talent both on and offscreen. They are doing that with Thor/Branagh, but they almost lost it with Jackson, and who knows whats happening with Iron Man 2 and Mickey Rourke.

February 26th, 2009 at 3:30 pmI’d like to see Rourke get something done and be in the film. The talk was that he would be playing either the Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash. Now, I’m also a damn big Iron Man comic fan, having read every issue, so I know a thing or two about IM. Do you have any thoughts on who you’d like to see him play, if he got signed, Ryan?
Personally I’m over the metal suit/metal suit throwdown thing, and I think in the next film they need to in a different direction. So I really don’t want to see Dynamo, at least not in this film. And honestly, I’d rather see Titanium man anyway. But I’m not sure I want to see Whiplash as a villain on the big screen. I’ve always thought that the character is kind of gay. I know he’s been used in some of the more compelling IM issues (Iron Man is a killer? Oh yeah!) but I don’t think he’d work for a film like that. I’m really torn. I’ve always been partial to M.O.D.O.K, though I don’t think he’d fit in the next IM either. I’d love to see IM fighting round after round of armored A.I.M soldiers, so hopefully they can work that in.
It also appears like they are working in the whole “Demon in a bottle” storyline (as I read, however true this may be, that someone was comissioned to make custom Tony Stark toilets for the film) so maybe we could see Rhodey don the armor, get a little tough on guys, and Stark come back and battle a friend to regain control of the armor. That’s about the only armor/armor fight I want to see. Maybe they could do Radioactive Man and/or the controller? Or how about them just going for metal suit vs giant freaking robot? They could do Ultimo, and use that to introduce Pym, and thus they could use Ultron in The Avengers film. Now that would be cool. I’m really not sure what I want to see, I just know it’s not Dynamo or Whiplash.
