Posted on: December 4th, 2008 They Remake

Why do I even bother getting upset about my favorite films being remade into festering pieces of shit? I know I should just expect every brilliant piece of celluloid to be exploited and whored out to a new generation, but damn does this one sting. If you haven’t deduced from the title, the powers-that-be are planning a remake of the beloved-yet-cheesey 80’s sci-fi John Carpenter masterpiece, They Live.

If you haven’t seen They Live, then shame on you and a plague on your house. Not only is it wickedly funny with a nice socio-political undertone, but it has the longest (see greatest) street-fight scene known to man and has inspired such popular characters as Duke Nukem and Ash from the Evil Dead films.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Universal and Strike Entertainment are in negotiations for the rights to the film.

Call me a pessimist, but the 80’s was the only decade to allow alien-vision glasses and Rowdy Roddy Piper cool. Without these two ingredients, a good They Live remake does not make.
