Captain America Has A Director…

And that director is… Joe Johnston.

Those of you unfamiliar with Joe Johnston, I can almost guarantee you’ve seen his work and just don’t know it. For an “ohh that guy” director, Johnston actually has a fairly good resume. Among Johnston’s directorial credits are Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Jumanji, Jurassic Park III and the upcoming classic monster remake of The Wolf Man.

What’s interesting about Johnston though, is not so much his directorial work as it is his visual effects and design work. Johnston had a huge part of the visual development of the original Star Wars trilogy; apparently he designed many of the now famous ships and vehicles and some characters, including Yoda and Boba Fett. Johnston also had a heavy hand in visuals and storyboards for Raiders of the Lost Arc. Now if those credentials alone don’t pacify my knee-jerk pessimism, then nothing can. Well… let’s wait until we see some casting news first…

Marvel’s The First Avenger: Captain America is set to throat-kick audiences on May 6, 2011.
