Posted on: July 26th, 2007 You Stay Ascii, San Diego… Part I

So today marked the start of the most important geek and entertainment expo of the year, the San Diego Comic-con.

Every year thousands of geeks, actors, fanboys, movie execs, marketers and overall comic, sci-fi and movie buffs flock to what is known as “the whale’s vagina” to take part and rejoice in the colorful festivities.

As the years go by, it seems that the content of the con moves further away from comic books, with Hollywood using it as its golden weekend to promote to the more passionate demographic…a demographic that is constantly changing itself, as the con is more and more accessible to the average movie-goer. No longer does one have to know “who shot first” or what the power cosmic is to attend this convention. Quite simply, it is the event of the year if you’re all about movies, television, and entertainment.

One day I will make it out to this, the con of all cons. It’s on my “things to do before I die” list. Right up there with “box a kangaroo” and “build a bomb shelter”.

Part II of this post will come after this weekend. In it I will give you a recap of the con (more than likely a recap of a recap from some other website) and divulge you with my two cents.

I’m expecting some huge things from the con this year. I’m really excited to see anything from next year’s Iron Man, which is already looking stellar. Here’s hoping WB will let some Dark Knight stuff out of said darkness, too.
